Code of Practice for Juniors

Gosforth Harriers and Athletic Club are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of all its members. The club believes it is important that members, coaches, administrators and parents associated with the club should, at all times, show respect and understanding for the safety and welfare of others.

Members are encouraged to be open at all times and to share any concerns or complaints that they may have about any aspect of the club with Welfare Officers Steve Bond or Irene Ewart or other members of the committee.

As a member of Gosforth Harriers and Athletic Club, you are expected to abide by the following junior code of practice:

Junior members must respect the rights, dignity and worth of all athletes regardless of age, gender, ability, race, cultural background, religious beliefs or sexual identity.

Junior members must attend training and competitions as agreed with their coach and inform their coach as soon as possible if they are unable to attend.

Junior members should keep to agreed timings for training and competitions or inform their coach if they are going to be late.

Junior members must wear suitable kit for training sessions and must wear a club vest for competition when representing Gosforth Harriers and AC.

Junior members must behave in an appropriate way during training and whilst representing the club in competition and must follow the instructions of their coach.

Junior members must obey the instructions of race officials and stewards in competition and must respect the decisions of race officials.

Code of Practice for Parents / Caerers and Other Family Members 


We welcome parents / carers, other relatives and friends and value the support they give to all our young athletes.

It is important when supporting our youngsters you behave appropriately at all times and adopt a good sporting attitude.

Please follow the guidelines below:

Support your child's involvement and help them to enjoy their sport.

Never force your child to take part in sport.

Help your child to recognise good performance, not just results.

Never punish or belittle a child for their performance

Encourage your child to respect other athletes, coaches, club officials and race officials.

Discourage unfair play and arguing with officials.

Set a good example by recognising fair play and applauding good performances of all.

Use proper language at all times.
